L&P are celebrating Earth Hour on 19th March. A worldwide movement, Earth Hour encourages people to switch off their lights for an hour, from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm. Landmarks such as Big Ben, the Empire State Building, the Sydney Opera House and the Eiffel Tower are switched off in an attempt to raise awareness about energy conservation. Earth Hour is celebrated in all seven continents and has grown exponentially since its launch in Australia in 2007. Our clients and employees have been encouraged to participate, for example, by enjoying a candlelit activity on 19th March, and also by logging their locations here: http://earthhour.wwf.org.uk/
L&P are joining this celebration as part of our sustainability goals. Sustainability refers to the ability to meet our current needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own. From an organisational perspective, sustainability addresses the social, economic and environmental responsibilities that arise from our business activity. We believe this is a venture well worth our time and efforts.
With this in mind, we established our CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) Committee in 2015. Currently composed of four members of our staff (Shane, Padraig, Sarah and Carolina), the CSR team has been working towards developing L&P’s Sustainability Programme. The four pillars of the programme focus on the environment, our people, our services, and the community. In the course of the coming months, we are planning a number of activities to help us engage further with our clients and staff in the development of sustainability goals. More information on this to follow.
